Pam Bondi has been named President-elect Trump's new choice for US attorney general
President-elect Trump announced Thursday evening that he's nominating former attorney general of Florida Pam Bondi as the next attorney general of the United States.
Matt Gaetz, the former Florida lawmaker and Trump's nominee for attorney general, retracted his nomination on Thursday owing to the "distraction" his nomination produced by a flurry of claims regarding paying teenage women for sex. Trump's most recent Cabinet appointment takes Gaetz's place.
"Pam was a prosecutor for nearly 20 years, where she was very tough on Violent Criminals, and made the streets safe for Florida Families," Trump stated in his statement. She then sought to prevent the trafficking of lethal pharmaceuticals and lessen the sorrow of fentanyl overdose deaths, which have devastated many families throughout our nation, as Florida's first female attorney general. I recruited Mary to serve on our Opioid and Drug Abuse Commission during my first term because she did such an amazing job—we saved a lot of lives!
"It's time to stop using the political Department of Justice as a weapon against Republicans like myself. "Pam will bring the DOJ back to its original mission of combating crime and restoring America's safety," he added. "I have known Pam for many years — She is smart and tough, and is an AMERICA FIRST Fighter, who will do a terrific job as Attorney General!"
